Our Mission is to welcome all people to Christ and equip them to praise God in life and worship!
The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Plattsburgh
Rejoicing in the Light of Christ who has come to save us, let us pray for ourselves, for the Church in all places, and for the confession of the Gospel throughout the world that, through its light, many may be led to Jesus' eternal kingdom. O Light of Light, You have come into our dark world to lead us in the way of eternal peace. We praise You, O God, for sending Your Son to become man and for revealing to us Your desire to deliver all people from eternal death. Make Your Church the light of the world that many may be led to You and rejoice in Your kingdom.

ONGOING AND COMING UP WEEK

CHURCH OFFICE HOURS ARE 9:30 am to 12:30 pm Monday through Thursday. If you'd like to set up an appointment or need a visit, please call Pastor Britt at the church number (561-5255) during those times or her cell (518-536-6385) if outside of those times or in an emergency.

COFFEE HOSTS are needed for regular Sunday fellowships after church. Families of those who have a birthday or anniversary each month are encouraged to host the first Sunday of the month with a cake to honor all of the Redeemer members who were born or married during the time period. Sign-up sheet is to the right of the entry.

CONFIRMATION  All students in 6-9th grade are invited to participate in confirmation. A letter was sent the parents of all students in this grade range. Pastor Britt will meet with parents and students Sunday, September 12 at 9 p.m. in the parish hall to discuss this year’s program. The first class will the following Sunday, September 19.

WEDNESDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY Everyone is welcome, not just adults, to the Evening Bible Study. We will resume meeting on Wednesday, September 19 at 7 p.m. in the parish hall. We are continuing using the book Honoring Our Neighbor’s Faith as we learn more about other Christian denominations and world religions. If you need a copy of the book, please let Pastor Britt know by Sunday, September 12, so we can order one. The cost for the book is $10.

WOMEN'S WRITING GROUP Women's lives are rich sources of stores. Would you like to learn how to tell yours in writing? A women's writing group will be led again by long-time Redeemer member Mary Dossin, a writer and a teacher of writing for over 40 years. She recently published the book CHRISTIAN VOICES: LEADING WOMEN'S WRITING GROUPS IN CHURCHES. "I think it's the best thing I have done in many years," was the response of one participant. We do indeed have a good time with laughter, tears, and lots of good sharing. If you need more of such things in your life, join us on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 in our church basement beginning on September 28. No experience necessary--just a pen or a pencil!

REDEEMER’S CARE TEAM ministers to the members of our church family who are ill at home or who are in the hospital. We visit regularly, and when Pastor Britt is unavailable, we bring Holy Communion. We exist to show God’s love to those in special need of it. We each serve for a month at a time. Please pray about joining us in this important ministry. Contact Maxine Patterson, Eileen Kuhns, Justin Carter or Mary Dossin if you can join us, or want more information, or if you need a visit. Mary (846-7411) is on duty in September.

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE READING

Matthew 10:34-42 (NRSV)

The cost of discipleship

"Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one's
foes will be members of one's own household.

Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take up the cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.

"Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet's reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple - truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward."
